SALENTO, LAND BETWEEN TWO SEAS
Salento is a strip of land that divides two seas and marks Italian Eastern border. Here blows Sirocco, the warm wind that contributes to make unique such amazing place. Salento offers astonishing beaches, incredibly tasty food as well as very interesting sites to sightsee such as the thousand-years old dolmen and menhir, the Baroque architecture and art in Lecce area, the typical fortified “masserie”, the lookout towers along the coast and all the richness of the cultural heritage.
Mar Y Sol Lido outlooks the Ionian coast, between Gallipoli and the beautiful Porto Selvaggio natural reserve, crossed by beautiful paths that will carry you to the extreme point of the “stiletto heel” drawn by the Italian Peninsular “boot”. Deep in a picturesque landscape, enjoying a breath-taking view on typical little dry stone walls and luxuriant vegetation of prickly pears and olive trees, you will eventually discover Capo di Leuca.
Situated just few kilometers from the rich-in-Baroque art town of Lecce, Mar Y Sol Lido is the perfect place to start visiting Salento. From here, you will easily reach also Otranto, that thanks to its charming castles, the cathedral and the ancient walls at the edge of the cliff attracts many tourists every year. Then, going down along the Adriatic coast, the Arabique style of the termal locality of Santa Cesarea will surprise you, while Zinzulusa Cave, that you will be able to visit both by walking and sailing, will leave you simply amazed.
Few kilometers away from Mar Y Sol Lido, you will discover also Grecia Salentina, the Greece of Salento. Consisting of nine villages originally inhabited by Messapi, Greek and Byzantine people, this area is the centre of a very ancient tradition: the Taranta folk dance. Here you are sure to have a fun time thanks to the great variety of events that always animate the summer: local festivals, national and international happenings about music, art, dance and theatre and much more.
